Blog Post 3- Acknowledgments and Future Endeavors

Reflection

1. CONTENT: Throughout my whole research process, I have gained a lot of in-depth knowledge on what copyright is especially on how it works in the music industry. At first, my only knowledge on copyright was very surface level. I only knew is put into place in order to stop others from copying your work. From this process, I learned that copyright is unique when it comes to the music industry. I also learned what copyright infringement is as I had heard about it before, but could not provide a definition if I was asked. The reason that copyright is different in music is for a number of reasons including how two things can be copyrighted in the music industry and how easy it is to violate. The two things that can be copyrighted is the composition and the sound recordings of songs. The reason for the easy violation of copyright in the music industry us because of the sparsity of chord combinations opposed to songs out in the world. If I was to continue this project in the future with more time, I would increase the sample size to include all cases from the 1700s-present day also including international ones. I also would look at the popularity of different artists in order to see if there is a correlation there and with the outcomes of the cases.

2. PRODUCT: I learned from the final presentation that you don't have to memorize a script when presenting. At first, I was using a script to try and cover all of the topics and this ended up stressing me out more since I was trying to memorize word for word, and if I messed one word up my mind would just go blank. I knew my data and information well enough as I was working on this project the entire year. Knowing that memorizing word for word was not required helped me with the actual presentation and how stressed I was. Additionally, during my final paper, I learned how to incorporate and make different graphs based on data used. I had done this in the past before but not to this extent and having this many variables. I also learned when writing the final paper that time management is key. In the past, I have always left work until the last minute, but since this paper was 5000 words, I knew that I could not do that. Instead., I broke the paper into smaller chunks and continuously worked on it throughout the whole process., These skills that I have learned regarding presenting and writing are useful skills that I can utilize in college and beyond. This class has definitely prepared me more for college and taught me the ways of research far more than I'd known before taking it.

3. PROCESS: During this project, there were many things that I learned about myself especially how I am horrible at time management. Also, I learned that when I have a lot work to do I trick myself into believing that I have more time than I do to get something. This realization helped me get better at time management. This is something that I plan on carrying with me throughout life because time management is an important skill to possess in any situation,

I also wanted to take the time to thank all of the people who supported me along the way with my research journey. A special thanks to Mrs. Dobos and Mr. McBride for helping me celebrating the highs and helping me through the many roadblocks that I experienced along the way. Also I wanted to thank them for giving me the tools needed to succeed. Without them my research would not have been possible and my project would not have turned out as well as it did. Additionally, I wanted to thank Mr. Chapman along with the other teachers who attended my final presentation. Without them, i would have been unable to receive a final grade and I am grateful that they were willing to listen to my project. Lastly, I would like to thank my friends who helped support me during times that I felt like giving up. We all encouraged each other to do our best and also provided advice for each other when needed.

Future Endeavors

I plan on attending the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in the fall and majoring in psychology. I also plan to minor in criminology. After college, I want to go into the FBI, but that might change in the next four years.
